Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 Review
Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 has leaped onto the big screen, and the even bigger IMAX screen and has big foots to follow. The first film, for me. Was a surprise hit. The Marvel formula, again for me. Is getting tired. It’s not just Marvel’s fault, but the whole superhero, graphic novel, comic book, whatever you want to call it stories are getting a little samey. What stood Guardians out was a fumbling crew, lots of great gags and a superb soundtrack. Anyone born in the 80s would struggle not to enjoy it. Thankfully the follow up is pretty much in the same league. Didn’t I just say I was getting bored of the same stuff. Kinda. The beauty of Hollywood is, as long as people keep buying tickets and film franchises keep breaking box office records then the formulas are not going to change. It’s why the Avengers is now boring, but Guardians is still fun. The question is how many 80s songs, unrelated humour, and a half decent story line can this keep going for.
Seeing the film in IMAX 3D was also impressive. I think we might finally be at the point in time where CGI might actually be able to look as good on the screen as the models that were made back in the 70s-90s. Which when you go back and see on Blu-Ray on good TVs still look far superior to some of the CGI thats being churned out today. I think you’d have to be a bit of an old fart to not really enjoy this film. It’s great fun. Go see.
